For senior psychology major and education minor Rosa Manzo, the road to UCLA began in junior high school in Fresno. The first in her family to attend college, the young teenager was asked "what makes you think you can succeed at UCLA?" That, says Manzo with a smile, "ignited a flame in me." And that flame still burns bright as Manzo, now a Ronald E. McNair Research Scholar, works towards a degree in Westwood. She still takes the time to mentor other young achievers through the program she and her friends established in sophomore year, the Westside Initiative for Leadership. Next on her to-do list: a graduate degree and career in education. "Bringing my work back to the community is a priority," says this Bruin with a bright future.
