The Selling of Huck Finn

English professor Tom Wortham loves to read and teach the novel "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." But he doesn't love the Huck Finn memorabilia that's on exhibit in the Powell Library Rotunda, even though he has spent decades amassing it. The dolls, toys and souvenirs are problematic because they've created a Huck Finn in popular culture who is nothing like the character in the novel.

"This would all be harmless enough if we hadn't, in the process, lost touch with a very tragic and difficult book that deals with many problems that we still haven't grappled with sufficiently in American culture," Wortham says.

Take a look at pieces of the collection and read Hoarding Huck in UCLA Magazine.
