Pauley Pavilion groundbreaking

  • Published May 12, 2010 8:15 AM

A ceremonial groundbreaking marked the beginning of Pauley Pavilion's transformation from a 1960s-style facility to an arena for the twenty-first century.

In 1964, the shovel-wielders at the groundbreaking included Chancellor Franklin Murphy and lead donor Edwin W. Pauley, for whom the building is named. The 2010 edition featured Chancellor Gene Block and Matt Pauley, grandson of Edwin.

Also speaking at the event were Dan Guerrero, alumnus and athletic director; Janina Montero, vice chancellor of student affairs; and Anna Li, student athlete and member of UCLA's 2010 NCAA Champion gymnastics team.

On hand were famous sports alumni, current student athletes, members of the Spirit Squad and Marching Band, and guests.
