Opening of new school a milestone for campus outreach (UCLA Today story)
For principal Georgia Lazo, the UCLA Community School is both brand new and full of memories. "When I see children walk in the door, I see myself in some ways. When I see their parents, I see my own and how very hard they worked to ensure that I received a quality education," Lazo says.
Lead teacher Mario Perez calls the new school his "dream job" because "it's an opportunity to bring everything I believe about education together with my own passion for working with students in a nurturing place."
A new kind of neighborhood school, the UCLA Community School is a partnership between UCLA and the Los Angeles Unified School District.
