In 2009 UCLA introduced Volunteer Day - an unprecedented opportunity for thousands of incoming students to experience the ideal of community service first-hand.
Tuesday, Sept. 21 will mark the 2010 edition of Volunteer Day. The second-year event will be even bigger: more sites, more projects, more ways of helping. Some 5,000 new students will fan out under the direction of a thousand task captains drawn from faculty, staff, alumni, upperclassmen and other volunteers.
When the task force returns to campus, they will leave behind them scores of completed projects: new and restored murals, cleanup and landscaping, fire abatement and trail restoration.
